Good afternoon parents! I want to explain about a couple of new homework items your child came home with tonight. We have been asked to send home fluency passages each week. I would like for you to listen to your child read the passage aloud each night. You do not have to time them. Instead, encourage them to read with an appropriate rate, paying attention to punctuation and tone of voice. Please work with your child to complete the questions on the back and both of you sign the paper where indicated. Also, your child brought home a packet of word problems. I went over in class how the problems should be completed. Your child will get a new packet each week and should work to complete the problems by the end of the week.
Tonight's homework:
Spelling-page 29
English-page 29
Math-write 5s multiplication facts 3 times each (test Wednesday), word problems (due Wednesday)
Reading-read story (Grace and the Time Machine) AR test Wednesday, fluency passage (due Wednesday)
Your child may also have other homework as assigned by Mrs. Hudson. She is filling in for me half-day since my doctor has limited my work to 4 hours a day. Mrs. Hudson is a retired teacher so I know your child is in good hands while I'm not there.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!
I hope your child had a great first week at school. Starting Monday, we will begin our regular schedule of academic work. Your child will begin to have spelling and math homework each night. They will also have English, social studies, and science homework occasionally. Each Friday, your child will bring home his/her reading book. I would like for them to read the next week's reading story at least once over the weekend. This helps prepare them for the work in the upcoming week. Our first story is "Because of Winn-Dixie." Please have your child read, or read with your child, this story. Thanks for your help in your child's education. I have enjoyed this first week of school and starting to get to know each of your children. I know we will have a great year.
Please don't forget to return registration paperwork on Monday if you did not send it in today.

Hello parents. I will be back to updating the page daily now that testing and all that stress is over. Our reading story this week is Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride. In math we have started reviewing multiplication. It is imperative that students know how to multiply with 2-digit multipliers to be prepared for fifth grade. In English we are talking about adverbs. In science we will be finishing up a chapter on plants, and in social studies we are about to start talking about Alabama's part in the Civil War.
